Ethylene glycol is a versatile organic compound, with major applications including use as an antifreeze, humectant, solvent, and raw material for the synthesis of polyester fibers and plastics. It is widely utilized in industrial, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic sectors.


Industrial and Chemical Applications 

Antifreeze: Ethylene glycol is the main component of antifreeze in automotive cooling systems and industrial equipment. It can significantly lower the freezing point of water (the freezing point can reach -37℃ when the mixing ratio is usually 1:1), and is widely used for equipment protection in extremely cold environments. 

Polyester synthesis: As the core raw material for the production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), it is used to manufacture polyester fibers (such as polyester) and plastic bottles and other products, which is its largest-scale industrial application. 

Solvents and cleaners: Due to their excellent solubility, they can be used for dissolving dyes and resins as well as for mechanical lubrication. 

The field of medicine and cosmetics 

Moisturizing and skin care: Ethylene glycol can absorb moisture and form a protective layer. It is often used in skin care products such as face creams and body lotions to improve dry skin. 

Drug carriers: As stabilizers for drugs and solvents for injections, they assist in the delivery of anti-cancer drugs and hormone-based medications. 

Body temperature regulation: Evaporation's heat absorption property is utilized to assist in treating high fever or heatstroke. 

Other uses 

Explosives and resin synthesis: Involved in the production of flexible explosives and surfactants. 

Electronic equipment cooling: Heat transfer medium for liquid-cooled computers.
